Funeral services for Mrs. Susan Boone, set for originally 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon, will not be held until 6 o'clock Sunday afternoon, it was decided today, in order to await arrival of relatives who could not reach Gainesville Saturday. Funeral services will be conducted at Fairview cemetery.

Mrs. Boone, 83, widow of the late B.H. Boone, died at her home on Potter and Culberson streets Thursday midnight.

Susan M. Keyes was born in Monroe County, Kentucky, the daughter of William and Jane Keyes. Both parents were born in Virginia. Her father was a blacksmith.

Susan married Benjamin Howard Boone on January 1, 1867 in Missouri. Benjamin returned to Missouri after his military service for the CSA in Texas.

After their marriage, Susan and Benjamin relocated to Texas in 1868. Susan and Benjamin Boone had several children. They are enumerated on the 1870 census for Precinct 1, McKinney, Collin, Texas, with son James, age 2 and John, age 4 months.

The Boone's moved to Cooke County, Texas where they are enumerated on the 1880 census with son James, age 12, son John, age 10, and a baby (Annie) 2 months old. Also in the household was John Boone, age 36, the brother of Benjamin along with, James, age 80 (Benjamin's father).

A fourth child, Benjamin Howard Boone, Jr. is buried in the Fairview Cemetery at Gainesville, Texas on September 17, 1899.

Susan helped raise two of her grandchildren, Robert Howard and Grace Boone after the death of their father, James W. Boone.

After Benjamin's death in 1925, Susan applied for and was granted a pension for his service in the Confederacy during the Civil War.

Susan left a will in which she named her daughter, Annie Coker, grandchildren Claude Boone, Wesley Boone and Grace Locey. She left each of them $1.00. Susan did not mention the grandson, Bennie Lucian Dickens, who was in her household in 1920. Susan left the remainder of her property to her beloved grandson, R. H. Boone. The will was signed with her mark and witnessed by. F. M Johnson, Jr.

Susan's obituary mentions her grandson, Robert Howard Boone and one daughter, Annie of California.

Susan is buried in the Fairview Cemetery at Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas along with her husband and many of her family members.

30FUNERAL OF B. H. BOONE WAS HELD WEDNESDAY MORN

Funeral services were held for B. H. Boone, 79, Cooke county pioneer, who died at his home here late Monday, where held at the Whaley Memorial Methodist Church Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. J.C. Marshall, the pastor, officiating.

Interment was made in the Fairview cemetery under the direction of Undertaker George J. Carroll, with the following pallbearers, Active ---- W.H. Brown, Fred Frasher, John McCarty, Frank Mitchell, J.Z. Keel, and Frank Morris. Honorary ---- J.P. Ware, Sam Stansbury, D.T. Lacy and S.M. King.

The deceased was a direct descendant of Daniel Boone, famous Indian fighter of early Texas days, and was formerly a peace officer here. He is survived by his wife and daughter, Miss Annie, residing in California.

Benjamin Howard Boone's civil war pension says he served in the Cavalry with Bourland's Regiment, Company K in 1863 and 1864 during the Civil War. He was honorably discharged at Gainesville, Texas in 1865. Pension application number 21135 located at the below website.

Benjamin Howard Boone, the son of James Boone and Mary Polly Allen, was born in Missouri.

According to B. H. Boone's Pension Record he had lived in Cooke County, Texas, since 1862.

Benjamin Boone served in the Cavalry with Bourland's Regiment, Company K, Montague County, Texas, in 1863 and 1864 during the Civil War. He was honorably discharged at Gainesville, Texas in 1865.

He returned to Missouri where he married Susan Keyes on January 1, 1867. They relocated to Texas in 1868. Benjamin and Susan Boone had several children. They are enumerated on the 1870 census for Precinct 1, McKinney, Collin, Texas, with son James, age 2 and John, age 4 months.

After the death of their son, James W. Boone, age 21, in 1897, Benjamin and Susan were involved with the care of his minor children Robert Howard and Grace Boone who were their grandchildren. Two other grandchildren, Claude and Wesley Boone are mentioned in Susan's will.

Benjamin Boone, a long time resident of Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas, was a carpenter and a law officer. He was granted a pension for his service in the CSA on December 1, 1912.

Benjamin died at the age of 79, on December 29, 1925 and was buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville with his wife Susan and other family members.
