179John Nelson, 83, farmer of Chatham vicinity who had been living in the home of his son Kemp Nelson, 58 Jefferson Street, died at 4:40 p.m. Friday in Newark Hospital, where he had been a patient since June 11,
He came to Licking County in 1933 from Whitmer, W. Va., but was born in Harmon, W. Va., Jan. 15, 1866.
His wife, Mrs. Millie Alice Nelson, died April 19, 1942, and two daughters and seven sons survive: Kemp Nelson of the home, Edward of Lovers Lane Road, Frank of Newark, Martin of Akron, Walter and Barton of Cass, W. Va., Jesse Nelson of Hebron, Mrs. Otis J. Arbaugh of Newark, and Mrs. P. C. Harsh of Parsons, W. Va. He also leaves 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Nelson was the last of his immediate family. A son, three daughters and a brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Methodist Church in Whitmer, W. Va., and burial will be made in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received at Criss Brothers funeral hone until 4 p.m. Sunday when the body will be sent to the Runner funeral home in Elkins, W. Va.

179In 1870, Catherine was without a spouse but had an extra son, John age 3. So, apparently, Elijah died and Catherine had John by a Mr. Snider (or Snyder). For some reason, John was married as Snider but used Nelson as a family name.

Mrs. Millie Alice Nelson, 72, wife of John Nelson, died Saturday at 11 p.m. in her home in Chatham of a heart ailment.
Mrs. Nelson came to Chatham nine years ago from Whitner, W. Va., where she was a member of the Methodist church. She attended the Methodist church of Chatham.
Born May 11, 1869, in Pendleton county, W. Va., she was the daughter of Eli A. and Mary (Huffman) Butcher. Her husband and the following children survive: Walter and Burton of Cass, W. Va.; Mrs. C. W. Currance of Parsons, W. Va.; Miss Mary Nelson of Bretz, W. Va.; Martin of Akron, Jesse of Cincinnati, Edward, Kemp, Frank Nelson and Mrs. Eva Arbaugh of Newark; also 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters; Joseph Butcher and Mrs. Malissa Wilfong of Parsons, W. Va.; Arthur Butcher and Mrs. Maggie Roy of Hendricks, W. Va.; Elijah Butcher of Beverly, W. Va., and Mrs. Tilda Isner of Elkins W. Va.; a son John D. Nelson, and three daughters, Mrs. Mamie Lucas, Mrs. Caddie Long and Mrs. Lula Nelson, are deceased; also two sisters.
The body will be sent to Elkins, W. Va., tonight and the funeral services and burial will be held in Whitmer, W. Va. Funeral directors, Criss Brothers.
